Catherine Seville

Catherine Seville is a Classic Pink Bearded Iris named in memory of the late Vice Principal of Newnham College who was a keen supporter of the project to set up the Newnham College Iris Collection.

This new iris forms part of the exciting Newnham Collection of Irises which include:  Catherine Seville/Henry Sidgwick/Peile Hall/Old Hall.

Building Your Collection

This exceptional Classic Pink Bearded Iris has grey/white veining on the falls and a red beard. The clear clean colours, and great branching are all hallmark characteristics of Bryan Dodsworth’s Award Winning British Bearded Irises.

Choosing Pink Irises

If you like ‘Pinks’ as many of our customers do, grow them in sequence. For instance, start with Eileen Louise, follow this with Catherine Seville . You could then consider adding Century Pink and possibly Sherwood Pink, both late flowering varieties, and go out with a bang with a spectacular show of ‘Pinks’ at the end of the iris season.

These latter flowering varieties really help to extend the iris flowering season in your garden – the aim of all iris lovers.

Mixing with other Colours

Our Irises combine clear clean colours, great branching and perfect flower shape to create a ‘Perfect’ Iris.

Catherine Seville is perfect on its own and mixes well with all Colour Groups: other ‘Softs’ (Pale Yellow and Pinks), ‘Cools’ (Blues/Whites) and the ‘Hots’ (Deep Yellows/Oranges/Browns). It is a highly versatile plant.

Registered by Newnham College from one of Bryan Dodsworth’s unregistered seedlings Pale Pink, ruffled, slight fragrance. Height 38″ (97cm).
