Philippa Hobart

After a gap of three years we are happy to reintroduce Philippa Hobart, and recognise that this new Classic Purple Bearded Iris is a great addition to our ‘Hots’ Collection.

Philippa Hobart has a distinctive unusual mulberry colour. The iris is named after Philippa Hobart who was brought up and married at Blickling Hall in Norfolk in the 17th Century.

Building Your Collection

Philippa Hobart is an exceptional Purple Bearded Iris with perfect flower shape and classic ‘Dodsworth’ branching; another benefit is that it is also  sweetly scented. This Purple Bearded Iris flowers in the middle of the iris season; it is also vigorous and bulks up well.

Mixing with other Colours

These ‘Dodsworth’ irises combine clear clean colours, great branching and perfect flower shape to create a ‘Perfect’ Iris. Understand why these single colour irises known as ‘selfs’ mix so well with other colours groups to give you real scope to design your own highly individual colour palette.

Mix Philppa Hobart with other ‘Hots’, Reds, magentas, browns and to great effect with ‘Softs’, the pinks and pale yellows to see the sheer vibrancy of these ‘Dodsworth’ irises.

Mixing with Pinks

Remember the ‘Pinks’ in this context as they span the early/mid/ late flowering period, giving you so many options to extend the iris season. Eileen Louise flowers early, Catherine Seville in mid-season, and both Sherwood Pink and Century Pink are late, very late.

Registered. Pale mulberry self, with distinctive veining on the falls. Red beard fading to pale mulberry at the tip. Height 40” (104cm). Sweet musk scent. Bred by Bryan Dodsworth, and part of his amazing legacy of unregistered seedlings.
