Tynedale

New Iris

We are more than happy to be introducing Tynedale, a Violet Purple Bearded Iris. This exciting new introduction is completely new to the iris world.

This amazing new Violet Purple Bearded Iris is a great addition to the Collection. Firstly it is a brilliant iris in its own right, and secondly it is simply one of the best Purple Bearded Irises available. This tall striking vibrant iris creates real impact and is always a firm favourite with garden visitors. Furthermore, it is fully hardy and bulks up well.

Named after the magical river South Tyne in the north of England where my father and I used to fish together and where I now fish.

Special Reserve

This is one of a new batch of Special Reserve Bearded Irises that we are releasing for the first time in 2024. They form part of a new ground-breaking initiative to make small quantities of particularly rare or unusual varieties available to the public. Initially our plan is to  offer them first to our Subscribers in small batches (30’s-50’s) at a premium price. Because of their scarcity, we expect demand to be strong, and we will allocate irises on a first come, first served basis.

Building Your Collection

This exceptional Deep Violet Purple ‘Self’ has perfect flower shape and classic ‘Dodsworth ‘branching, and, furthermore, it is worthy addition to our Classic ‘Hots‘ Collection.

Mixing with other Colours

Our Irises combine clear clean colours, great branching and perfect flower shape to create a ‘Perfect’ Iris.

For instance Tynedale , a Violet Purple Bearded Iris,  is as a stand-alone plant. In addition, consider planting it with other ‘Hots’, particularly William of Orange  and Red Pike that flower at the same time. This combination of vibrant strong colours is striking and as a result you can be confident of a highly distinctive display with real impact.

Alternatively, use Tynedale with the tall  ‘Cools’, either Ice Pinnacle or  Jessica Rosalind  work best. Finally, try adding one of the late flowering ‘Pinks’ (Sherwood Pink or Century Pink) to extend the iris season to the full.

Registered in 2023 by Simon Dodsworth. Tall Bearded Iris 48″ (122 cm) tall. Mid/Late Bloom; Deep Purple Violet Self , Blue/Grey beard. Blaeberry Pie X Roman Emperor.
