Sanderling

New Iris

We are very happy to be introducing Sanderling, an exclusive Ruffled Pale Yellow Bearded Iris for the first time.

This new iris is a welcome addition to our  Award Winning Collection. Firstly it is a great iris, and secondly it complements and extends our existing range of ‘Yellows’. By contrast, Sanderling  is compact, distinctive and shorter;  furthermore, it is also hardy, disease free and bulks up well.

Named after Sanderling, the iconic wading bird that bears the visits our shores in large numbers in the winter. A favourite of my father’s who was himself a keen ‘birder’.

Special Reserve

This is one of a new batch of Special Reserve Bearded Irises that we are releasing for the first time in 2024. They form part of a new ground-breaking initiative to make small quantities of particularly rare or unusual varieties available to the public. Initially we will offer them  at a premium price in small batches (30’s-50’s), first to our Subscribers. Because of their rarity we expect demand to be strong, and we plan to allocate irises on a first come, first served basis.

Building Your Collection

This exceptional Yellow ‘Self’ has perfect flower shape and classic ‘Dodsworth ‘branching, and is an important part of our Classic ‘Hots‘ Collection.

Mixing with other Colours

Our Irises combine clear clean colours, great branching and perfect flower shape to create a ‘Perfect’ Iris.

Sanderling is a Ruffled Yellow Bearded Iris and great grown on its own. However, consider planting it with other ‘Hots’, particularly William of Orange and Red Pike that flower at the same time. Alternatively, try it with the other  taller ‘Yellows’, Charnwood Delight and Lime Soda.

Winning Colour Combination

In addition, consider experimenting with some of the shorter ‘Cools’, particularly the ‘Blues’. For instance,  Skye Blue and Bryan’s Best Blue work best and flower at the same time as Sanderling. The combination of ‘blues’ and ‘yellows’ is really stunning and never fails to impress. Finally, you can always add one of the early flowering flowering ‘Pinks’ Eileen Louise.

Registered in 1979 by Bryan Dodsworth. Tall Bearded Iris 35″ (89 cm) tall. Early/Mid Bloom; Pale Yellow Self . Ultrapoise X Radiant Light.
