Spring 2018 Update

Moving Irises to Norfolk

Work clearing the garden in Nottinghamshire was completed in October 2017 prior to the house being sold later in the year. This has been a major undertaking and has been in progress since 2013. The irises are now all established in the gardens at Marshgate in Norfolk. I am pleased that we have been able to send some of the unregistered seedlings to Doddington Hall for further evaluation. This will help boost the Dodsworth Collection in the Walled Garden.

Work Continues at Marshgate

The garden continues to develop, we have a number of new seedlings removed from the Nottinghamshire Garden in the last couple of years flowering in 2018 for the first time, including some spectacular ‘pinks’.

There will also be a good display of some of my own seedlings in the garden in 2018. These need to be evaluated this year, before deciding which to keep. I have my father watching over me to make sure that I only retain the best!

Nursery

I have been able to establish a small Nursery approx. five miles from Marshgate where the bulk of the irises for sale are produced. The majority of plants for resale are micro propagated, but some vegetative propagation is still carried out.

Mailing List

We started gathering names in 2017, first at Vincent Square and later at Chatsworth. Our plan is to do a simple mailing, perhaps at the start and end of the season introducing any new varieties we have for sale, explaining what shows we are attending and giving details of Garden Open Days, and other venues where you can see or buy our irises. We will also include a section on general husbandry.

With the imminent arrival of the new GDPR legislation, we are very aware of the need to manage the list carefully and make sure it is tailored to the needs of iris lovers.
