Darley Dale

Introducing Darley Dale a White Bearded Iris and one of our Collection of Award Winning British Irises.

Building your Iris Collection

Start building your collection of ‘Cool’ irises which include different shades of blue (lighter and darker) and the whites.

A classy iris with great shape and structure – a plant with real impact. One of the last irises raised by my father, justly earning him his final British Dykes Medal when he was over eighty, his last of twelve, a record which is unlikely to be bettered.  This is a highly versatile ‘White’ and a must for those who love clear clean cool colours.

Named after one of the celebrated Derbyshire Dales through which the beautiful river Derwent flows, a Trout Stream which my father loved.

Darley Dale is great as a stand alone iris in a group, or plant in blocks for real impact. Mid-season.

Mixing with other Colours

These ‘Dodsworth’ irises combine clear clean colours, great branching and perfect flower shape to create a ‘Perfect’ Iris. Understand why these single colour irises known as ‘selfs’ mix so well with other colours groups to give you real scope to design your own distinctive colour palette.

Plant this White Bearded Iris with both the ‘Cools’, ‘Softs’ and ‘Hots’ making it a most versatile plant.

Planting with Pinks

Remember how useful  ‘Pinks’ are in this context, spanning the early/mid/ late flowering periods. Because of this they give you so many options to extend the iris season. Eileen Louise flowers early, Catherine Seville in mid-season, and both Sherwood Pink and Century Pink are late, very late.

Registered  by Bryan Dodsworth in 1998. Dykes Medal 2001.
