Skye Blue

Introducing Skye Blue, a Blue Bearded Iris from our Award Winning British Iris Collection.

Building your Iris Collection

This is the perfect plant to start building your collection of ‘Cool’irises which include different shades of blue (lighter and darker) and the whites.

Skye Blue  is a pure ‘pale blue’ to complement ‘Bryan’s Best Blue’, but subtly different, a little darker and shorter, with tighter flowers and less ruffled. It has the characteristic ‘Dodsworth’ form and branching. It was one of my father’s favourite irises.

Named after the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides

This Classic Blue Bearded Iris does really well in the garden, bulks up quickly and importantly has a high bud count (3) on each flowering point. This iris complements our range of  ‘Blues’.

Use this Blue Bearded Iris as a standalone iris, or plant in groups, blocks or drifts

Mixing with other Colours

These ‘Dodsworth’ irises combine clear clean colours, great branching and perfect flower shape to create a ‘Perfect’ Iris. Understand why these single colour irises known as ‘selfs’ mix so well with other colours groups to give you real scope to design your own distinctive colour palette.

Use this Classic Blue Bearded Iris with all colour groups ‘Cools’, ‘Softs’ and ‘Hots’ making it a most versatile plant.

Planting with Pinks

Remember how useful  ‘Pinks’ are in this context, spanning the early/mid/ late flowering periods. Because of this they give you so many options to extend the iris season. Eileen Louise flowers early, Catherine Seville in mid-season, and both Sherwood Pink and Century Pink are late, very late.

Registered by Bryan Dodsworth in 1996. Height 40” (102cm). Light blue. White beard. Self. Delicate scent.
